Move came at right time for Camels

Campbell County head coach Troy Styer took some heat when he made a quarterback change a few weeks back, but after managing just seven points total in two key district losses to Boone County and Ryle in early September the Camels' offense needed a lift.

Styer moved Nathan Kidwell back to outside linebacker and handed the keys of the offense over to sophomore Andrew Eshman. The change has breathed much-needed life into both the offense and defense. In their past four contensts, they scored put 104 points on the board and have allowed just 28. Eshman completed 48 of 84 passes for 703 yards and six touchdowns since taking over under center.

Campbell County picked up a big win last week over Simon Kenton and Ryle, who lost earlier in the year to Simon Kenton but beat Campbell County, fell at home to the first place Boone County Rebels. It set up a three-way tie in Class 6A/District 6 for second place.

Ryle currently leads the tie-breaker standings with 18 points. Campbell County and Simon Kenton each have 11 points. But the Camels could reduce that margin with a win in Friday's game against Newport Central Catholic at Newport Stadium, according to the KY Post.

Cincinnati Hills League comes down to this

Indian Hill and Wyoming are both heading to the playoffs, but one of them is going to be wearing the Cinicnnati Hills League crown when they get there.

The two teams square off on Friday night at 6PM at Paul Brown Stadium undefeated in league play. Indian Hill will be heading to the Division III playoffs out of Region 12, and Wyoming in Division IV, Region 16.

Don't think for a minute that either of these teams isn't going to be laying it on the line. Particulary that the two coaches have a personal connection.

The Braves have won the last two league titles and shared the '04 crown with Wyoming, which hasn't won an undisputed CHL title since 2001.

"Indian Hill is another team in the CHL that has a great coaching staff," Wyoming coach Bernie Barre told the Community Press.

"(Braves coach) Kevin Siple coached for me at Beechwood (in Kentucky) and is another personal friend.

St. X falling after close call, loss of QB

The latest USA Today Super 25 has St. X falling from No. 2 to No. 5 while Colerain stays at 10:

Both teams were using sophomore QBs in their first start, with Luke Massa playing for Xavier. Next: Friday at Moeller.

10. Colerain, Cincinnati (9-0)
Previous: 10. Result: Cardinals RB Dominique Sherrer rushed for four TDs in a 35-7 win Friday vs. Hamilton. Next: Friday at Oak Hills.

Rudolph ranked #1 TE nation, #23 overall

SportsIllustrated and Takkle.com rank their top 100 high school football players in the country and Elder TE Kyle Rudolph came in ranked No. 23 overall and as the nation's top tight end. The senior is on his way to South Bend, as he's already committed to Notre Dame.

"Rudolph extremely athletic and long arms enable him to catch the passes at their highest point. He needs to improve his run blocking and add some size, but when he puts the package together in college he has a chance to be a dominant tight end. "

Hoover High in trouble

Hoover High (AL), who many of you may remember from the Ohio vs. USA Challenge, they lost to Colerain, is in big trouble.

A report on the investigation into possible grade-changing and other academic improprieties regarding athletes at Hoover (Ala.) High and nationally renowned coach Rush Propst will be released this weekend.

In a meeting Wednesday night, Hoover's school board decided by a 4-1 vote to post the results of the report on its website, www.hoover.k12.al.us, Saturday morning.

Names of students mentioned in the report will be redacted, school board spokesman Jason Gaston said, adding the board did not have discussions on how it would act on the report.

Boone County Impresses, Dixie Struggles

It is a real shame that Highlands and Boone County will not play this season. They are clearly the best two teams in NKY right now.

The Rebels furthered the case on Thursday by running all over the Colonels. Farris, who in my opinion is the best running back in NKY and perhaps one of the best in the city, totaled 319 yards on a punishing 42 carries. The Rebels' air attack was potent as well as wide receiver Mercier Doucette tallied 217 yards on two catches. The duo combined for five touchdowns, in what prove to be something of a shootout.

The Colonels' offense made some big plays, but once again it was costly turnovers and mental mistakes that did in Tom Spritzky's crew. Those are characteristics that you wouldn't expect for a senior-laden club like the Colonels. They will try to right the ship next week when they play county rivals Scott. A win there and Dixie could rebound to take the #2 seed in District play, a third straight loss and there playoff hopes could begin to diminsh.

Way to go James Miller!

We like to send a big congratulations out to Holmes' QB James Miller and congratulate him and the Bulldogs on a big victory this past weekend over the Dixie Heights Colonels. Miller threw for 229 yards and picked up another 165 yards on the ground to lead Holmes to a potential season-saving victory.

For his efforts and being voted as the top high school player in the Tri-State last week Miller receives a $25 gift card from Dick's Sporting Goods...Remember Every Season Starts at Dicks!
