All-Stars: Kentucky vs. Tennessee

Brett Dawson, Louisville-Courier Journal on the KY vs TEN All-Star game:

Kentucky has won four of the past five meetings, and the Kentucky all-stars have a three-game winning streak in games played in Lexington.

"We want to keep going with the tradition of winning," Hines said. "Tennessee used to get the best of us, and now we want to keep getting the best of them, kind of get back at them."

It might be Kentucky's last chance.

The all-star game is in the final year of its current contract, though The Tennesseean of Nashville reported yesterday that a three-year deal, with games being played in Western Kentucky, has been discussed.

That could prevent tonight's game -- the 24th in the series -- from being the last one.

The game already may have lost some of its cachet in Tennessee. The Volunteer State has been short on volunteers for the game in recent years.

Herbstreit Challenge Shake-Up

There are some breaking details going on the upcoming Kirk Herbstreit Ohio vs. USA Challenge, set to take place over Labor Weekend. The shake-up involves the Colerain Cardinals and their tentative opponent, Hoover High (AL).

The Birmingham News is reporting taht the Alabama High School Athletic Association on Thursday told Hoover High's football team the same thing it told the Buccaneers last month: Never on Sunday.

The AHSAA Central Board of Control voted unanimously to deny Hoover's appeal to play Colerain of Cincinnati in the Kirk Herbstreit Ohio vs. USA Challenge on Sunday, Sept. 2., upholding its original decision. The AHSAA Fifth District had previously upheld the board's first decision, setting up the appeal to be heard by the central board.

By rule, high school teams must get permission to play out-of-state games. There is no written rule that prohibits Sunday games.

The card has been set for the 10th Annual Crosstown Showdown, but still no word on the Prep Classic. Stay tuned to TSF.com for schedule updates.

Props for Elder TE

Cincinnati Elder TE Kyle Rudolph was recently listed Ohio's No. 4 best prospect by JJ Huddle. Rudolph verbally committed to Notre Dame earlier this spring. He had quite a season in 2006 as he caught 32 balls for 401 yards and seven TD's. Rudolph was named the Dick's Sporting Goods Player of the Week here on TriStateFootball.com for his three-touchdown effort in the Panthers' OT victory against LaSalle (9/22/06).
