Public vs. Private Schools
Terry Boehmker, Kentucky Post looks at the challenges facing Stan Steidel:
Steidel is returning to the board at a time when public school officials are clamoring for changes. Their complaint is that private schools have an unfair advantage because they can draw students from anywhere while public schools are restricted to residents within their assigned school districts.
The KHSAA drafted a regulation that would have made students who transfer from public to private schools as freshmen ineligible for a year.
The regulation was approved by the Kentucky Board of Education and sent to the state legislature. But a legislative panel found it deficient and lawmakers called for the board of education to withdraw it.
