Indiana Defensive POY: Payton Stonefield

East Central linebacker Payton Stonefield was named our 2012 Indiana Defensive Player of the Year.




For a second straight year East Central linebacker Payton Stonefield was named as our as our Indiana Defensive Player of the Year as TriStateFootball.com paid tribute to finest from the Northern Kentucky and Southeast Indiana area’s high school gridiron at the Year In Review Show on Monday night at Quaker Steak & Lube in Florence.

Stonefield leaves St. Leon as one of the most decorated players in program history. This past season he was named AP Class 4A, First-Team All-Indiana, IFCA Top 33, Indiana Gridiron Top 25, IFCA All-State (LB) and EIAC MVP for a second consecutive campaign. On top of that he carries a 3.53 GPA and has been a member of the Honor Roll and Athletic Club (3.5 or better) all four years.

The senior finished his career as the Trojans all-time leader in total tackles, solo tackles and tackles in a season. East Central went 27-7 in his three seasons as a starter.
